enry Morrison Flagler was a businessman and philanthropist who is best known for his development of Florida’s east coast. He built the Florida East Coast Railway from Daytona to Key West, which made it easier for tourists to travel up and down the coastline in search of beaches or recreational activities. His contributions helped make tourism an important part of Florida's economic growth during this time period.
Just like the Railroads beginnings, The internet was a vast and virtually unknown space, Henry Flagler would have appreciated two digital explorers by the name of Larry Page and Sergey Brin, then students at Stanford University, met for the first time to discuss their interests and these two made tremendous progress on what would become known as "Google."
Flagler was so charmed by the city of St. Augustine that he invested his fortune into developing Florida, not just to attract out-of-town visitors but also for Floridians who needed a vacation from their stressful lives in the sweltering state year-round.
In the 1860s, Rockefeller was struggling to make a name for himself in an industry he had no part of starting. His competitors were many and they all seemed better at it than him; but by 1880, Standard Oil controlled over 80 percent of America’s oil refining business with their vastly superior methods. Henry Flagler recognized Rockefeller’s brand new technology for drilling oil And joined forces with him.
Henry Flagler not only had a vision for himself but he could also see the vision and others. John D. Rockefeller, who was once rumored to have the most money in the world and at one point controlled more than 90% of oil production in America, said that he wished he had Flagler's brains.
Henry Flagler's inventive mind would have been drawn to Larry Page and Sergey Brin software. He would not only have invested in Google, but he also probably developed an idea for something else that could be just as groundbreaking!
